Answer to Question 1

Answer: The ideal answer will include:
1. One way the experiences of many of the examples of immigrants differ is on the basis of economic success or stability after immigrating to the United States or Canada.
2. The first wave of Vietnamese immigrants was relatively economically successful. This was the case in part because of a high level of education, assistance from the United States government, and English language competence.
3. In contrast, the poorer immigrants from El Salvador have found less economic stability. This was the case because illegal status and less education forced them into the informal sector of the economy and often-unfavorable employment circumstances.
4. Another way to compare the experience of two groups could be on the basis of the hardships and circumstances during the process of migration.
