Answer to Question 1

Tier 1  basic, everyday words that don't usually have to be taught in school. (numbers, colors, common objects). Tier 2  useful words that students need for success in school; part of academic language; word wall words (chrysalis, thorax, abdomen, exoskeleton). Tier 3  specialized words that not all students need to learn before high school (albumin, nebula)

Answer to Question 2

Parts of speech, parts of a sentence, types of sentences, capitalization and punctuation, and usage. Instructional activities will vary by student.
