Answer to Question 1

What is scaffolded writing?

When teachers initiate interactive writing, they make a line for each word in the message or sentence, stretch the words so that children can hear the sounds in each word, and either they or a child writes the words on the lines. (Often they begin with them writing the words and eventually turn the pen over to the children.) These activities build supports for children, helping them reach the goal of writing sentences themselves.

Answer to Question 2

Explain how do ongoing assessment techniques help early childhood teachers meet the needs of diverse learners?

In order to make literacy learning experiences accessible to all children in the classroom, teachers also need to make accommodations for the tremendous diversity that is present in today's classrooms. On-going assessment and performance sampling provide opportunities for teachers to determine how children understand new materials and allow teachers to adjust materials and instruction to better suit the needs of the child.
