The nurse is reviewing the admission orders for an 86-year-old client who is being admitted for pneumonia. The client has chronic pain caused by arthritis and the diagnosis of uterine cancer.
 
  The physician has ordered oral long-acting narcotic medication every 4 hours as needed. In administering this medication the nurse would
  A) administer the medication sparingly to avoid narcotic addiction.
  B) administer the medication when the client requests.
  C) consulting the physician to order intravenous pain medication.
  D) administer the prn medication around the clock.
