Why is poetry often a neglected genre?
 
  a. Young adult readers just do not appreciate vague writing, figurative descriptions, and comparative analysis.
  b. Many preservice teachers and library media specialists report they do not like poetry because they had to analyze it in high school or memorize it in elementary school.
  c. Reviewers traditionally have been overly critical, thus making publishers weary of investing time and financial resources into a not-yet-accepted genre.
  d. Teachers and library media specialists realize young adults prefer other genres and therefore place major emphasis on more preferred literature types.

Question 2

With poetry, the challenge for teachers and library media specialists is to
 
  a. get young adults interested since many young adults have been turned off to this genre since their elementary school days.
  b. pique the interest and curiosity of all students and help them learn to appreciate a variety of poetic styles.
  c. convince students that young adult poetry is not as boring and difficult to read as traditional adult poetry.
  d. teach only the poetic classics since contemporary young adult poetry has not been fully accepted by critics and reviewers.
