(1) Public Law 94-142, enacted in 1975, required states to provide free, appropriate public education for every child between the ages of 3 and 21 (unless state law does not provide free public education to children 3 to 5 or 18 to 21 years of age) regardless of how or how seriously he may be handicapped.
(2) Public Law 99-457 extended the educational rights of children ages 3 to 5, regardless of state laws, and added programs addressing the needs of infants with serious disabilities.
(3) Public Law 101-476 (IDEA) required that schools plan for the transition of adolescents with disabilities into either further education or employment at age 16.
