Suppose the Pearson correlation (r) is -.60 and the significance level is .006 for the relationship between support for racial equality and age. Give a full interpretation of these results.

Suppose the multiple correlation coefficient (R) is .60 for the relationship between political tolerance (dependent variable) and the two independent variables years of school and age. Interpret this result.

Answer to Question 1

Answer: There is a statistically significant, negative relationship between support for racial equality and age. The independent variable age explains 36 of the variation in the dependent variable support for racial equality.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The two independent variables years of school and age explain 36 of the variation in the dependent variable political tolerance.
