Answer to Question 1

(a) The experimenter can use automated procedures as much as possible so the setting is standard for all participants, regardless of condition.
(b) The experimenter can create a cover story that may convey the actual purpose of the study or, if necessary, that hides the true purpose behind a plausible cover.
(c)) The experimenter can use a single or double blind study to keep the experimenter and the participant from conveying information inappropriately.

Answer to Question 2

A panel study typically involves the study of the same people in successive waves of data collection. A trend study involves studying the same population over time, but not necessarily the same people.
The advantages of panel studies include the fact that you are studying the same people, so the nature of the sample doesn't change.
The advantages of trend studies include the fact that you don't have to worry about keeping track of the same people or about attrition because you sample from the population at each measurement.
