Answer to Question 1

When we apply theories to behavior, our approach will be dictated by the theory that we are using. Freudian theories stress underlying, unconscious motives, so applying Freudian theory could involve a psychotherapeutic approach. Behavioral theories stress changes in behavior, with less emphasis on thought and feeling. Cognitive-behavioral theories stress a combination of thought, feeling, and behavior. Depending on one's approach, the approach to controlling behavior will differ considerably.

Answer to Question 2

A hypothesis is a statement of a potential relationship between variables. A theory is a relatively complete statement of principles that can be used to explain behavior.
