Mutually exclusive means that response categories do not overlap. An example of overlap might be that a respondent finds his unique answer in two different categories. Exhaustive means that each respondent has a choice. An example would be that a respondent finds his unique answer on the questionnaire, i.e. he is employed as a baker, and baker is included as a profession. Balanced means that the survey offers favorable or unfavorable choices equally. An example would be that a respondent answers a question that doesn't seem biased to one response - an unbalance question would be,
