Answer to Question 1

Megalopolis was formed along the northeastern coast of the United States by the gradual coalescence of large, independent, metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington.

The site of a place refers to the features that make up the immediate environment of that places location. The area has natural harbors and cheap water transportation, these have been a good asset.

Situation or location relative to other places is a major factor in the areas growth, each urban area benefiting economically by proximity to other urban areas. Core cities in the interior, agriculture, and accessibility are very important for rapid growth.

Answer to Question 2

Resource quality, quantity, and relative location led to rapid development. Water and railroads provided cheap and easy transportation. Iron ore, coal, and limestone are all in close proximity. Automotive, firearms, and electronics started here. The first oil well in the U.S. was at Titusville, PA.
