A principal one is that like most MDCs, those of Europe have transitioned into post-industrial societies in which the wealth generated by the manufacturing sector (the secondary sector) has been overtaken by the service sector (the tertiary sector that includes entertainment, government, health care, financial services, education, retail services, and information technology).
