Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: A successful answer will include three of the following:
- The engineer could use heavy-duty metallic fencing or netting to hold the bottom part of the slope in place.
- A barrier of high-strength concrete or shotcrete could restrain the boulders more effectively.
- If the conditions are right, rockbolts could be used to anchor the deep part of the slope to the barrier in front.
- It may be worthwhile to see if water in the slope is increasing the danger and provide drainage.

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Here is a sample response:
I am in an area that was the top of a rotational slump. The material to my right was the head of the slump area, which rotated inward, changing the angle of the trees to point toward the slope.
A successful answer should
- identify the cause using the term rotational slump and
- correctly explain the cause of the angle of the trees.

The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
