Answer to Question 1

Horse latitudes are located at latitudes near 30 in an area where the convergence of air aloft produces regions of high pressure, also called subtropical highs (anticyclones). These areas are distinguished by clear skies, warm surface temperatures, and weak winds.
The polar front is a zone of low pressure located near 60 latitude. The mild surface air from latitude 30 converges with cold air from the poles that rises and storms and clouds develop.

Trade winds are surface winds that flow from latitude 30 toward the equator. The Coriolis force deflects the air, causing it to blow from the northeast in the Northern Hemisphere and from the southeast in the Southern Hemisphere.

ITCZ refers to the intertropical convergence zone and is the boundary region near the equator where the northeast trades and southeast trades converge. As the air rises it combines with humid air and forms huge thunderstorms with heavy rain.

The doldrums refer to a region near the equator where the air is warm, horizontal pressure gradients are weak, and winds are light. Warm, humid air rises forming huge cumulus clouds and thunderstorms.
