No, this would not be surprising. Deserts are commonly found over areas of the earth where air is falling and atmospheric pressure is high. This occurs at more temperate latitudes like 30 degrees North and 30 degrees South, but it also occurs at 90 degrees North and South. Since air is falling and pressure is high at the poles, it would not be surprising to find these are arid regions or cold deserts.
