Answer to Question 1

This type of egg allowed the developing organism to bypass a larval stage that needed to live in water. Therefore, organisms were able to inhabit many ecosystems on land without being dependent on water for part of their reproductive cycle. The organism that hatched was self-reliant and looked like a miniature of the adult.
