Answer to Question 1

About half, or 50 percent, of water is lost in irrigation. Most of the loss is due to
evaporation and transpiration. Flood and spray irrigation expose more surface area to
evaporation.

Answer to Question 2

Permanent crops like orchards or vineyards are best suited to drip irrigation. Crops that
require yearly plowing would not be appropriate because the buried lines used would
have to be dug up and reburied frequently.
