Teachers can rarely orchestrate the friendships that their students make. However, they can set up situations in which their students get to know one another a little betterfor example, by having students work on projects in pairs or cooperative groups.

 Conduct cooperative learning activities in which Dari works regularly with two or three of her classmates.
 Engage students in peer tutoring activities.
 Frequently rearrange students' seat assignments.
