Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary depending on where students live. Examples in the book that are fairly common throughout the United States include zebra mussels, Russian olive, kudzu, and purple loosestrife.

Answer to Question 2

When rock strata that are layered horizontally are subjected to compressional forces, they become deformed. Folding occurs when rocks are deformed as a result of compressional stress and shortening. An arch-shaped upward fold is an anticline. A trough-shaped downward fold is a syncline.
