The seven common patterns (students can choose any five) are:
dendritic: most familiar and also very efficient.
trellis: characteristic of dipping or folded topography.
radial: when streams flow off a central peak or dome
parallel: steep slopes
rectangular: faulted and jointed landscapes
annular: structural domes with concentric patterns of rock strata
deranged: glaciated shield regions

Answer to Question 2

drainage basin (watershed): an area of land where surface water converges into a single stream.
drainage divide: the line that separates adjacent drainage basins.
interfluve: the high ground that separates one valley from another.
valley: extensive area of land drained by river system.
