Heating from below (cP air moves over the Great Lakes and creates lake effect snow; mT air moves over the land in the SE U.S. and becomes more unstable), cooling from below (mT moves over a snow pack or cold ocean current), evaporation of water from below (cP air moves over the Great Lakes and creates LE snow), lifting over mountains (orographic lift of Pacific mP air).
