Answer to Question 1

The three mechanisms of heat transfer are conduction (the transfer of heat through matter by molecular activity; this is the least significant), convection (the transfer of heat by mass movement or circulation within a substance), and radiation (the heat-transfer mechanism by which solar energy reaches our planet as radiant energy readily travels through the vacuum of space).

Answer to Question 2

The Sun radiates maximum energy at 0.5 micrometer, which is in the visible range. The maximum radiation for Earth occurs at a wavelength of 10 micrometers, well within the infrared (heat) range.

Many people have small pouches in their colons that bulge outward through weak spots. Each pouch is called a diverticulum. The main cause of diverticular disease is a low-fiber diet.

Once thought to have neurofibromatosis, Joseph Merrick (also known as "the elephant man") is now, in retrospect, thought by clinical experts to have had Proteus syndrome. This endocrine disease causes continued and abnormal growth of the bones, muscles, skin, and so on and can become completely debilitating with severe deformities occurring anywhere on the body.
