Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

When the environmental lapse rate is greater than 10C, a rising parcel cooling at the adiabatic lapse rate will remain warmer than the surrounding environment and will consequently be unstable.

When the environmental lapse rate is less than 5C, a rising parcel will be colder than the surrounding environment, whether it is saturated or not. A parcel that is colder than the surrounding air will not rise, and will therefore be absolutely stable.

When the environmental lapse rate is between the value of the dry adiabatic lapse rate and the wet adiabatic lapse rate, the parcel will be stable (colder than the environment) when it is not saturated but will become unstable (warmer than the environment) once condensation begins to occur inside the parcel. Therefore, the parcel will be conditionally unstable.
