Why did Wegener choose organisms such as Glossopteris and Mesosaurus as evidence for continental drift as opposed to other fossil organisms, such as sharks or jellyfish?

Answer to Question 1

Both Glossopteris and Mesosaurus are terrestrial organisms, which is much more valuable to the evidence pool for a hypothesis based on continental position. Sharks and jellyfish, neither of which even have much in the way of hard parts to even preserve in the fossil record (save for shark teeth), would give no clues about continental positioning.
