Answer to Question 1

Answer: A

Answer to Question 2

Answer: P waves are considered push/pull waves; they compress and stretch rocks in the direction the wave is traveling. P waves can also travel through solids, liquids, and gases because their volumes are compressed when stressed and spring back once the stress is relieved. S waves shake bedrock at right angles to their direction of travel. S waves also change the shape of materials in contrast to P waves, which changes the volume of materials. S waves will not travel through fluids and gases because these materials do not retain their original shape. Surface waves either cause motion at Earth's surface to move side to side, or up and down.
