In general, the contemporary states that made up the former Yugoslavia have been defined along religious/linguistic/ethnic divisions, in an attempt to ensure that each state is composed of a homogenous group. In Slovenia, for example, approximately 80 of the citizens are Slovene, 60 are Roman Catholic, and 91 speak Slovenian. That said, sizeable minority populations, whether defined by language, religion, or ethnicity remain; unless these differences are recognized, there is the possibility of further secessionist movements in the region.
