Answer to Question 1

The Caribbean is confronted with a range of environmental issues, including deforestation, soil erosion, and the threat of sea-level rise. The first two issues are resultant largely from a legacy of agricultural exploitation, while the second issue is related to the impact of global climate change. Climate change may also lead to both droughts and floods, as well as an increase in the intensity of hurricanes.

Answer to Question 2

The CO2 produced by fossil fuel consumption is  7.5 Gton(C)/yr, while the flux from global respiration alone is 60 Gton(C)/yr, and the flux from volcanism is about 0.06 Gton(C)/yr.
