Renewables include solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, tidal currents, and biofuels. The use of renewable energy is increasing, however, they still account for less than 10 of total energy consumption. Basic problems with all renewables are the timing of the energy. Solar requires sunshine (diurnal pattern); wind turbines need stable wind flows; hydro requires stored up water; geothermal and tidal while regular in time, the demand for them might not be; biofuels requires agricultural production and conversion.
