Meredith Preston and Javier Martinez, two fifth-grade teachers, are talking in the teachers' lounge after school.
My students are impossible, Meredith sighs. They don't do their homework, their parents won't answer the phone when I call, and most of them don't know their basic math facts.
I think we should make them learn whether they want to or not, Javier responds. I think if we're good enough, we can get all of them to learn. Some will learn more than others, but we can get every one of them to learn more than they are now. I tell them, Don't try to slipsloppy work past me, because I'm just going to make you do it over.' It's surprising. Some of them are a lot sharper than we give them credit for.
Javier's comments best illustrate which of the following variables from the model for promoting student motivation?

  a. Personal teaching efficacy
  b. Positive expectations
  c. Order and safety
  d. Task comprehension

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
