Concerning the issue of determinism, the Stoics believed that
 
 

a. every event in the the world is determined by blind chance.
  b. material atoms are determined but spiritual beings such as God and the human soul are free and spontaneous in their actions.
  c. determinism applies neither to the universe nor to human life.
   d. every detail in the universe is determined to fulfill a meaningful, benevolent purpose.
