Students should describe one of the following three strategies: (a.) think carefully about the
ideas you have read; (b.) talk about the ideas in class or with your classmates or study
partners; or (c.) turn your annotations into notes.

(a.) The reader tries to imagine what he or she is reading; (b.) the reader tries to understand
what the author is saying; (c.) the reader monitors whether he or she comprehends the
