Previewingskimming your reading material before you thoroughly read it, looking for specific things to mentally prepare yourself to readis a strategy that helps you mentally prepare for reading new material. It is skimming with a goal. To preview, you skim the reading assignment, reading the title, introduction, headings, subheadings, visuals, and, if there is one, chapter summary.
  This passage has two main patterns of organization. What are they?
 
  a. cause/effect and listing
  b. analysis and definition
  c. comparison/contrast
  d. definition and sequence

Question 2

The primary reason that you as a reader need to recognize an author's pattern(s) of organization is to help you
