In the process of moving air and water from one place to another, weather is created. Weather varies from day to day because circulation is constantly changing. But variable as it is, circulation tends to follow certain patterns. A zone of rising air is usually found near the equator, causing frequent heavy rains. Over northern Africa the air usually descends, causing clear skies and aridity. In the mid-latitudes the air tends to move from west to east most of the time, and less often in other directions. In southern and eastern Asia the wind blows from the land to the ocean in winter, and from the ocean to the land in summer, causing intense monsoon rains.
