What effect do water wells have on an aquifer? What will be an ideal response?

What happens to the water table in an aquifer if the amount of groundwater discharged naturally or
  withdrawn at wells is greater than the amount added from natural or artificial sources? What will be an ideal response?

Answer to Question 1

A well is drilled into the zone of saturation and water percolates into the well filling it to the level of
the water table. Then the water is brought to the surface by pumping.



Answer to Question 2

The water table drops if withdrawals from the system exceed deposits into the system.
