Answer to Question 1

Hot springs are any spring with water temperatures higher than 37C, but they may be much hotter.
The heat for most hot springs comes from magma or cooling igneous rocks. Some are heated when
water goes deep and experiences an increase in temperature due to the geothermal gradient.



Answer to Question 2

Recharge wells are drilled to pump freshwater back into the groundwater system. Recharge ponds may
also be constructed to allow large quantities of fresh surface water to infiltrate the groundwater supply.
