Answer to Question 1

Water enters the ground and moves downward by gravity through the zone of aeration and into the
zone of saturation. When it reachest the water table, it moves from where the watertable is high toward
where it is lower, such as a stream, lake or swamp. Some of the water follows the direct route along
the slope but some takes a more curving path.

Answer to Question 2

Below ground, some rocks layers can contain water. In the zone of aeration, the pore spaces only
contain air; in the zone of saturation, the pore spaces contain water. The water table is the surface that
separates the zone of aeration from the underlying zone of saturation.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
