Answer to Question 1

During the Nevadan orogeny, which began during the Late Jurassic, large amounts of granitic magma
ascended as huge batholiths that are now parts of mountain ranges along the western U.S.

Answer to Question 2

Numerous microplates from the Paleozoic became part of Pangaea and they explain some of the
anomalous geologic and paleontologic situations.
