Answer to Question 1

Playas are dry lake beds that are characterized by mud cracks and precipitated salt crystals.

Answer to Question 2

Both are deposited by running water that abruptly encounters a dramatic reduction in velocity, and
both spread laterally as a fan-shaped deposit.
