Answer to Question 1

Mauna Loa is a shield volcano composed of fluid lava flows; Mount Rainier is a composite volcano
made of a combination of lava flows and explosive (pyroclastic) eruptions; and Paricutin is a cinder
cone made from short-lived pyroclastic activity

Answer to Question 2

A shield volcano looks like a shield or tortoise shell with a low, rounded profile and gentle slopes (2 to
10 degrees). They are composed mostly of mafic lavas, which flow easily down the slopes. Shield
volcanoes are found in Hawaii and other places.
