Answer to Question 1

A crater is a conical or funnel-shaped depression, usually less than 1 km in diameter, at the summit of
a volcano. A caldera is a larger, steep-sided depression that formed by collapse of the summit
following explosive eruptions

Answer to Question 2

The gas erupted from the caldera and flowed downhill because it was dense. The gas was so fast that it
flattened trees. Thousands of animals and many people were asphyxiated by the CO2.
