Answer to Question 1

Imagine building a fence at the time illustrated in Figure 4.2(b). Notice that the original fence is
already bent by flexing of the ground on either side of the fault. After an earthquake as in Figure 4.2
(d), the original fence would end up straight again. The new fence, however, would end up noticeably
curved after the earthquake, with each end bent in the direction of fault motion

Answer to Question 2

The elastic rebound theory. Strain energy builds up within rock masses along a fault line and is
released suddenly just as a rubber band snaps when it stretched and then released. This sends out a
pulse of energy felt as vibrations and shaking

As many as 28% of hospitalized patients requiring mechanical ventilators to help them breathe (for more than 48 hours) will develop ventilator-associated pneumonia. The cure for trichomoniasis is easy as long as the patient does not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. Just a single dose of medication is needed to rid the body of the disease. However, without proper precautions, an individual may contract the disease repeatedly. In fact, most people develop trichomoniasis again within three months of their last treatment.

For high blood pressure (hypertension), a new class of drug, called a vasopeptidase blocker (inhibitor), has been developed. It decreases blood pressure by simultaneously dilating the peripheral arteries and increasing the body's loss of salt.

Did you know?

For about 100 years, scientists thought that peptic ulcers were caused by stress, spicy food, and alcohol. Later, researchers added stomach acid to the list of causes and began treating ulcers with antacids. Now it is known that peptic ulcers are predominantly caused by Helicobacter pylori, a spiral-shaped bacterium that normally exist in the stomach.
