Answer to Question 1

Developed countries, like the United States, can put more money into waste disposal options than a developing country could. In addition, terrain and culture have to be taken into consideration. Some individuals survive on garbage and its collection. Each country's solution will be different, but must be considered carefully by the local governing authorities.

Answer to Question 2

To support a good crop, the soil must (1) have a good supply of nutrients and a good nutrient-holding capacity; (2) allow infiltration, have a good water-holding capacity, and resist evaporative water loss; (3) have a porous structure that permits good aeration; (4) have a pH near neutral; and (5) have a low salt content. Moreover, these attributes must be sustained.
