Answer to Question 1

In 2010 an international committee met in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, to decide on important strategies for biodiversity in the next few years. Examples of targets listed in this chapter include:
- At least halve and, where feasible, bring close to zero the rate of loss of natural habitats, including forests
- Establish a conservation target of 17 of terrestrial and inland water areas and 10 of marine and coastal areas
- Restore at least 15 of degraded areas through conservation and restoration activities
- Make special efforts to reduce the pressures faced by coral reefs

Answer to Question 2

Despite the fact that devastating weather seems to be linked to climate change and other environmental impacts of affluence, global accountability for natural disaster relief is limited and difficult to maintain.
