Answer to Question 1

Answer: D

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The continent would stretch and thin. Soon, faulting and fracturing would occur as a large rift valley bounded by normal faults was created. Decompression melting would generate magma, which would migrate upward through the fractures to create sheeted dikes and flood basalts. Water would also move along these fractures, creating a chain of lakes. Eventually, the entire floor of the rift valley would be covered by basalts, and the valley would open up and let in the sea, completing the separation of the landmass.
