The velocity of moving water controls the sediment it can carry. How will a decrease in water velocity control the size of the sediment particle that is deposited first?

Answer: As fast-moving water begins to slow, the largest particles will be deposited first. As water continues to slow, the next largest particles will be deposited.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Coal forms in swamps, which are oxygen-deficient. There is not enough oxygen to allow bacteria to completely decay the plant matter.
