Consider the shallow ocean basins and current climate in the Persian Gulf. What kind of rocks would you expect to be forming there, and how would they form?

Answer: As the water evaporates, the solution becomes enriched with salt until the solution can hold no more. This process forces precipitation of the salt crystals. In the Persian Gulf, the high temperatures evaporate a great deal of water from the sea, leaving rock salt deposits behind.
