Answer to Question 1

Submergence of coastal areas and more than 1000 inhabited islands.
Increased coastal erosion as wave energy transfers farther inland.
Destruction of habitat in coastal wetlands.
Salt-water intrusion of ground-water aquifers near the shoreline
Barrier islands will migrate landward

Answer to Question 2

The evidence is the presence of 125,000-year-old shoreline deposits exposed on land about 5 to 6 meters above sea level in many tectonically stable parts of the world. These deposits date from the last time of warm climate between glacial ice ages and may provide a rough estimate of how much higher sea level will rise before the beginning of the next ice age.
