Answer to Question 1

Lakes form naturally where lava flows and mass-movement deposits block a stream channel or where faults shift crustal blocks downward to produce a central depression that collects water.

Answer to Question 2

A stream's discharge is the volume of water passing a given point for a specific amount of time. The stream's velocity is the speed of the water. The units for discharge are cubic meters per second (or cubic feet per second) and the units for velocity are meters per second (or feet per second).
