Question 2

Locate the data for the highest-discharge flood at Albuquerque after Cochiti Dam was completed in 1973.

  Date of flood: ___________________ _ Discharge: _____________cfs (ft3/sec)

  Rank in the entire flood record _________________

  What is the recurrence interval for this flood? Show your calculations.
  Note that to calculate the recurrence interval, R, use:
  R = (n+1)/r
  n = the number of records in the data set
  r = the rank of the annual-peak discharge value with 1 being the highest value in the table.

  Fill in the blank with correct word.

Answer to Question 1

Precipitation can soak into the ground or flow on the surface. If the precipitation infiltrates the ground it can be taken up by plants, evaporate as soil moisture, or become ground water. If the water flows on the surface, it will eventually enter a stream.

Answer to Question 2

Date of flood: 5/28/1984
Discharge: 9500 cfs
Rank in the entire flood record: 9
R = (58+1)/9 = 6.5
