Both anticlines and syncline are folds. An anticline is an arch-shaped fold where the limbs dip away from the hingeline and the oldest rocks are exposed along the axis of the fold. A syncline is a trough-shaped fold where the limbs dip toward the hingeline and the youngest rocks are exposed along the axis of the fold.
